ChartDirector future... and some questions |

Dear Mr Kwan,
Do you have any plans to implement ChartDirector for more interactive platforms such as
silverlight and html5 ?
Another question, does ASE work on private projects? Such as implementing a very
specialized and custom charting solution for us?
Thanks,

Hi DC,
Because HTML5/Javascript is only a very primitive programming system, it is unlikely to be able to support graphics programming.
HTML5 basically is a layout and rendering system. It means HTML5 is capable of rendering complex things, but someone has to decide what to render in the first place. For example, in a contour chart, someone has to compute the contours given the data, before we can draw the contour. It is hard to use HTML5/Javascript to compute the contours, but once they are computed, HTML5 can be used to render them.
There may be more interaction support we will provide in future versions of ChartDirector, but it is unlikely the entire ChartDirector can be implemented in HTML5/Javascript.
For the Silverlight, it may be powerful enough to support the entire ChartDirector implementation. We are considering porting ChartDirector to Silverlight.
Currently, we have an experimental "Silverlight ChartViewer" that can be used to display charts generated by ChartDirector on the server side, and to provide tooltips. So currently, it still relies on ChartDirector to render the charts.
For custom projects, I will respond to this by email.

We are currently planning for Silverlight support in ChartDirector Ver 6. However, this will not be available until around 2012.
Should you need further information, please feel free to contact me.
