  SVG Question
Posted by Adrian on Jan-16-2017 04:44
Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding the SVG option in ChartDirector. This is for the Java version.

- If I put a custom image background on my chart, will it appear on an SVG file? If no, is there a way to do it?

- If I use a custom font, what type of font will the SVG use since its only located on my server? Assume I give the SVG to someone who has no access to the font.

- Besides these points, are there any other major differences between an image created with CD compared to an svg version?

Thank YOu

Hi Adrian.

If the background image is a PNG, JPG, BMP or GIF image, it will be embedded into the SVG. So the computer that displays the SVG can see the image background.

For fonts, if the computer that displays the SVG does not have the font, the SVG viewer (which can be a browser) in that computer can do anything it likes. For example, it may use another font of its choice. This is similar to viewing a web page with a font that does not exist in the browser computer.

The SVG will be very similar to the image rendered by ChartDirector. Note that even for a normal web page (or PDF or MS Word, etc), different browsers, operating systems or viewers can render it differently. For example, the text on Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, Mac OS X, iPhone and Android can look slightly different. So it is normal any SVG can look slightly different on different computers.

Hope this can help.
